The Air Quality (Domestic Fuels Standards) (England) Regulations 2020

As a result of The Air Quality (Domestic Solid Fuels Standards) (England) Regulations 2020 introduced on the 1st of May this year we have changed the way we sell our firewood.

The regulations are designed to prevent the sale of wet firewood and reduce the release of harmful pollutants into the atmosphere.

We have always strived to ensure that our firewood is properly seasoned and, aim for our barn seasoned wood to be sold at around 20% moisture content when an average reading is taken.  This is done by splitting a log, taking two readings from the inside surface and one from the outside to give an overall average.

The new regulations prevent the sale of non-certified firewood with a moisture content of less than 20% in quantities of less than 2 cubic metres.  Whilst our aim is to sell our wood as dry as possible, we cannot guarantee that our barn seasoned fire wood will consistently give moisture readings of less than 20%. This is because we do not force dry our barn seasoned wood and rely on air circulation under cover to bring down the moisture content. As a result of the new regulations we will be unable to sell our barn seasoned firewood in quantities less than 2 cubic metres.

Please find guidance below on how to further dry your logs at home.
